It’s always a pleasure to be approached with a project that fits perfectly with Basic’s design aesthetic and credo. We Quit the Plain, based from Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara, California, is a lifestyle brand that is timeless in it’s pursuit of life. Here, I went with an editorial/publication style layout that flows with WQTP’s philosophy of sharing stories and riding waves – a simple, but true love for the experience.
Technically, the website is fully manageable with WordPress and is a huge step up from their previous blog that lacked gusto and re-visiting potential.

Here’s a little sneak peek at the site I’m currently wrapping up production on for The AVM. This site will feature elegant, full-frame photography on every page along with classic, but tasty layout design that will no doubt enhance this already world-renown luxury restaurant and client.

I was asked to design some logo and web directions for this NGO up in Canada through The Groop. They were looking for something that was iconic to a more modern approach to enviromental protection; something that would symbolize the connection we have with the environmental, but without being too cliche. To the right is the logo/mark they chose with some examples of other directions I provided for them.

I was approached by good friend, Brett Land, to design a print campaign that he could use to market his new “All Yoga Considered” yoga class. The result was to create a double-sided postcard that used a unique design that would truly stand out and be memorable. The front (left) includes an archival photo of James Dean practicing yoga while the back (right) has some great stories that Brett uses in his classes; a beautiful combination of wit, sweat and dry humor.

I collaborated with The AVM’s Seth Epstein to design and develop a new website for the PR firm, Burditch. They needed something very classic and professional to compliment their many years of experience and high-profile clients.

It’s no surprise that with the tremendous push for interactive media through mobile devices and web, Santa Barbara Magazine needed a web presence that would cater to their international viewers. Developed in collaboration with The AVM.

Was delighted to create this website for good friend and outstanding iPhone developer, Ben Sack. I was attempting to combine the beauty of the app and iPhone experience with old-school NY personality. I think I got it.

Nina Writes is a collection of wonderful stories and journal entries by soon-to-be-published, Nina Finci. Basic was asked to create a simple and elegant space where these stories can be displayed and shared to her friends, colleagues and publishers. Using a subtle color palette and I must say, tasteful layout, this website is extremely easy to navigate and read.

The owner of the Gym@Hayden called me to design a site for his new gym that would express a “your neighborhood” vibe. Got it.

I received a call from Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital to not only design a new physician portal website but also the brand. They needed something that was iconic to how they see the hospital moving forward but also keep the a sense of traditional. I chose to use a classic combination of lowercase Adobe Garamond and uppercase Adobe Caslon Pro for the copy part of the logo and drew a reproduction of the house that was once the hospital from 1881.

I designed and built this website for myself because I needed a platform that I could use to archive and categorize all the cool and inspiring stuff I find online and elsewhere. The highly image-driven grid and easy-to-use navigation lends well to exploring the posts without being overwhelming. Go ahead, explore.

Designed this website for the ultra-talented surf and lifestyle photographer, Morgan Maassen. Not only is he not even 21 years-old yet, but what he’s accomplished thus far is truly inspiring.
